SUNY Ulster Veterinary Technology Club Pet Expo / Rabies & Microchip Clinic
April 3rd 2011
7th Annual SUNY Ulster Veterinary Technology Club Pet Expo /
Rabies and Microchip Clinic
April 3rd, 12 - 4 pm
SUNY ULSTER Veterinary Technology Club will host their 7th Annual Pet Expo and Wellness Fair on April 3rd, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm in the Senate Gymnasium. Though this event is the Vet Tech Club's major yearly fund raiser there will be NO cost for admission this year; there will be donation jars located throughout the facility for you to make a contribution.
The fair will feature local veterinarians giving mini lectures with a Q & A on various topics such as senior pet wellness, avian nutrition, and equine lameness, dog demonstrations of agility, massage, obedience, and tracking, information tables on toxicology, parasites, nutrition, behavior and more, and many booths featuring area pet related rescues, clubs, and businesses. There will be a basket raffle as well!
-The Wellness Fair will offer Rabies Vaccinations at $8.00 and Microchip implantations at $30 each.
-Rabies vaccines are required by law. The Vet Tech Club will be administering 1 and 3 year rabies vaccines. If you would like a 3 year vaccine you MUST bring proof of a current unexpired rabies vaccine. Vaccines for ferrets available with PRIOR notice ONLY.
-Microchip implantation can be the one thing that reunites you and your pet after an unexpected separation. Microchips are implanted under the skin of your animal. The number on the chip is registered to you, your phone number, and your address. If your pet is lost and finds it's way to a municipal or veterinary facility, it will likely be scanned for a microchip. You and your pet will be reunited in no time! We only have 100 microchips, don't miss out on this opportunity.
Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase and donate pet oxygen mask sets for area first responders, to purchase live traps for utilization in our feral cat trapping program, to purchase and donate a microscope for the UCSPCA, and to subsidize other club projects and functions.
Founded in 2003 the Veterinary Technology Club at SUNY Ulster promotes awareness of and appreciation for Veterinary Technicians and to benefit animals in our community. The Vet Tech Club accomplishes this mission through on site and off site education programs and fund raising events. These programs emphasize animal education, animal health, animal husbandry, animal welfare and the current status of Veterinary Technology in the United States. SUNY Ulster's Vet Tech Club also participates in the Jane Goodall's Roots and Shoots program for the environmental awareness and education through the feral cat spay/neuter release and presenting feral cat programs in area schools. The funds raised are to fund our feral cat spay/neuter release program, to purchase and donate equipment and supplies for area organizations and to host continuing education seminars for area veterinary personnel. SUNY Ulster's Veterinary Technology Club donates animal oxygen masks to Shandaken/Allaben fire company
Megan Frano of Shandaken, a student at Ulster County Community College and a member of the Veterinary Technology Club, presented the Shandaken/Allaben Fire Company with a set of specialty oxygen masks fitted for both canines and felines. The oxygen masks were one of two sets donated by the UCCC Vet Tech Club and gifted within the county. Accepting the life saving masks on behalf of the Shandaken/Allaben Fire Company is Chief Gary Carr, Jr. The masks will be carried upon Shandaken's trucks along with the human life saving devices and will be used to administer oxygen to any precious pet that may be affected by the inhalation of smoke during a house fire. Also pictured are Todd Carr, Dennis Frano, Courtney Carr and Rescue, the firehouse mascot, all are members of the fire company.
